Amaechi rejects ‘concocted’ ADC Presidential Primary Election result

Former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has rejected early results of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s Presidential Primary election.

Amaechi in a May 26 post on X described the result as ‘concocted’. He noted that this followed reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country.

He stated that he had promised to accept the outcome if the Primaries were free, fair, and transparent. However, the events surrounding the ADC Presidential Primary election has prompted him to reject the result.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party,” he stressed.

The former transportation minister furthered that about eighty percent of party members were not allowed to vote. As such, this positioned the party on the same ranks with their oppositions.

According to him;

The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden, and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity, or religion.

He added that a party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for electoral malpractice cannot be engaged in similar acts.

Amaechi’s statement comes ahead of the official release of the result of the ADC’s presidential primaries. Meanwhile, reports suggest that former VP Atiku Abubakar is already leading across several states with Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen trailing behind.

Amid this, the party revealed that its vote collation process is ongoing, noting that the process reflects their ethos.
