The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to appeal the Federal High Court judgment that nullified Governor Hope Uzodinma’s nomination as its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
The party reiterated that it still recognises Uzodinma as its valid candidate, insisting that he won the senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, the APC spokesperson in Imo State, Jones Onwuasoanya, said the party’s legal department was reviewing the certified true copy of the judgment to determine its next course of action.
The party also urged its members and supporters across the state to remain calm and focused, warning against distractions from the legal dispute. It reaffirmed its commitment to securing victory across constituencies in the forthcoming general elections.
The party’s reaction followed a ruling by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.
The court directed the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC and barred Uzodinma from presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the seat.
Okorocha had filed the suit on August 13, 2026, challenging INEC’s recognition of Uzodinma as the winner of the party’s primary.
The dispute centres on conflicting accounts of the primary results. Figures presented by Okorocha’s camp showed that he secured 150,780 votes against Uzodinma’s 102,158 votes.
However, Uzodinma’s camp maintained that the governor won with 230,464 votes, while Okorocha received 1,098 votes.
The January 16, 2027 election will determine who represents Imo West in the Senate, subject to the resolution of the dispute over the APC ticket.
