A 24-year-old man, Kolade Tosin, has reportedly been sentenced to death by hanging over the killing of 17-year-old Ifeoluwa Apanpa in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on September 17, 2022, with the court delivering its judgment after legal proceedings on the case. Preliminary investigation began when the lifeless body of the victim was found with blood-stained underwear along the church.
Through diligent technological driven intelligence and investigation Tosin was apprehended by police detectives at Iyana Offa Divisional Headquarters. After which he was transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
During interrogation, Tosin was reported to have confessed to the crime but denied it during the hearing in the court.
However, On Monday, 11th May, 2026, Justice Mojisola I. Sule, at Oyo state High Court after a careful trial proceedings sentenced, Kolade Tosin to death by hanging for murder. In addition, the convict was also sentenced life imprisonment on the account of raping the teenager before death.
The ruling has since sparked reactions online, with many expressing sympathy for the late teenager and calling for continued efforts to address violence against women and girls.
