Effurun Killing: Police Leadership Orders Dismissal, Prosecution of Officers as Delta PPRO attributes incident to spirituality

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF)’s leadership has ordered the dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers involved in the execution of an unarmed man in Effurun, Delta State.

The Police disclosed in an April 29 statement that the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) has concluded its review of the incident. Hence, findings revealed that the principal officer ASP Nuhu Usman violated Force Order 237 regulating firearm usage.

“His actions were unlawful, unprofessional, and a clear betrayal of the oath to protect life and uphold the law,” the Police noted.

Consequently, the FDC recommended the dismissal of ASP Nuhu and other officers found culpable. Upon completion of the administrative process, the officers will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution.

Meanwhile, in an initial response to the incident Delta State Police Force PRO, Bright Edafe attributed it to spirituality.

The Delta State PPRO described the unlawful killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi as a difficult moment for the force.

“Since my six years of public relations this is my most difficult moment because having an incident that cannot be explained is very difficult” He said.

Bright added that the incident is unexplainable and could only be attributed to spirituality.
