An official of one of Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies has blamed the exorbitant electricity bills experienced by Nigerians on overconsumption.
The energy official disclosed in a video circulating on X that Nigerians usually turn on all their heavy electrical appliances at the same time.
Asked why energy companies only provide minimal electricity with huge bills, he explained that;
“The way the people use the light is the problem. Once they see light, they will turn on their freezer, washing machine, pumping machine and other electric appliances. Energy they would consume in one week, they will consume it in just one hour.”
He stressed that whenever people don’t see light for a while, they tend to use all their appliances whenever there’s light. As such, this often drives up consumption, taking electricity bills upward.
