The Ekiti State Police Command has reportedly rescued worshippers abducted during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) crusade in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, more than two months after they were kidnapped.
The victims were abducted on April 28, 2026, when suspected gunmen invaded the church’s open-air crusade, killed the officiating pastor and whisked away several worshippers into the forest.
Recall that, the alleged kidnappers requested for a sum of N1 billion naira ransom to secure the abductees’ release early in May.
According to reports, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the rescue stated that the rescue followed sustained intelligence-led operations carried out by the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters and the Ekiti State Government.
Abutu disclosed that while the operation led to the safe rescue of the remaining captives, one of the victims died while in captivity.
He further added that the rescued worshippers have been taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their health and ensure they receive adequate medical care. Security agencies have also intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
However, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael A. Falade, commended all security personnel and local collaborators involved in the operation, expressing appreciation to the state government and residents for their support throughout the rescue mission.
Following the victims’ release, Governor Biodun Oyebanji directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital to provide comprehensive medical screening and treatment for all the rescued worshippers.
