The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has officially reinstated the President of its Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade James Adio, bringing to an end weeks of uncertainty surrounding his suspension.
The reinstatement followed sustained engagements between the university management and stakeholders, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which had called for a review of the disciplinary action taken against the student leader.
Recall that, The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) had earlier suspended the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade James Adio and a deputy dean over allegations of alleged extortion of students. Also, Following Adio’s suspension two other students were also suspended with immediate effect for allegedly cyberbullying the embattled students’ Union leader.
Apparently the student’s union leader case attracted widespread attention within the student community, with many advocating for his return. While emphasizing the need for fairness in the handling of student affairs prompting the intervention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to reverse the disciplinary action and engage in dialogue.
According to NANS press release, their intervention followed widespread concern over what it termed an unjust suspension and persecution of the affected students.
Following the representatives meeting held Wednesday, June 24, 2026, NANS confirmed the reinstatement of the student’s union leader, Comrade James Adio. The association further announced that the university approved reinstatement of the suspended students, allowing them to participate in their examinations alongside their colleagues.
However, NANS commended the Vice-Chancellor for what it described as his swift response and commitment to resolving the matter through dialogue. The association expressed confidence that the relationship between the university management and student leaders would remain cordial and productive.
The student body further praised members of its delegation for their efforts in securing the outcome, describing the development as a victory for solidarity and collective advocacy.
Meanwhile, NANS has reiterated its commitment to protecting the welfare and interests of Nigerian students. While maintaining that it would continue to pursue dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing issues affecting students across the country.
