Human Rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate Omoyele Sowore has revealed plans to abolish two of Nigeria’s notable national programs.
Sowore disclosed that he intends to abolish the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He argued that JAMB, which facilitates the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) , is another layer of bureaucracy.
Consequently, he stated that admissions into tertiary institutions should be determined by the schools themselves. According to him, the process will go through a transparent, merit-based system instead of the current JAMB method.
The AAC Presidential candidate furthered that he will also scrap the National Youth Service Corps in its current form.
Sowore revealed that he will replace NYSC will a two-year voluntary National Job Corps. He explained that the new structure will guarantee participants meaningful employment, and practical skills.
He also noted that the system will provide entrepreneurship support and pathways into permanent careers for the participants.
“Nigeria’s young people do not need more compulsory schemes. They need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future,” Sowore argued.
Notably, Sowore’s planned abolition of NYSC and JAMB represents his latest campaign promise ahead of the 2027 general elections. The AAC Presidential Candidate earlier disclosed plans to pay a N500,000 minimum wage for workers.
