The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a unified N4,000 fee for O’Level result verification, ending multiple charges previously paid by candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
The new arrangement is designed to simplify the verification process and reduce the financial burden on candidates who need their results authenticated during admission and registration processes. In the new system, candidates will no longer have to pay separate verification charges for the same O’Level result at different stages of the admission process. Instead, a single N4,000 fee will apply to the verification.
The development is projected to particularly benefit candidates presenting WAEC results for admission processing through JAMB, as institutions increasingly rely on electronic verification to authenticate applicants’ academic credentials.
However, the move forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between examination bodies and improve the efficiency of admission related processes. The arrangement also follows a series of meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC to streamline O’Level result verification and ease the financial burden on admission seekers.
Notably, JAMB and WAEC are expected to use the unified arrangement to streamline result verification, minimise delays and provide a more coordinated system for institutions and prospective students.
Candidates have been advised to follow official procedures when processing O’Level verification and avoid paying additional fees to unauthorised individuals or agents.
The harmonisation of the charges comes as Nigerian tertiary institutions continue to place greater emphasis on the verification of candidates’ academic records before completing admission and registration processes.
