Lagos, Kano, Kaduna Top Nigeria’s Voter Register As INEC Records 110m Ahead of 2027

Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have emerged as the three states with the highest number of registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during a national stakeholders’ meeting and press conference in Abuja.

According to the figures presented by the commission, Lagos leads the country with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640. Katsina ranks fourth with 3,876,051 voters, while Rivers occupies the fifth position with 3,736,434 registered voters. Other states among the top 10 are Oyo with 3,588,111, Delta with 3,525,988, Benue with 3,057,225, Ogun with 3,037,981, and Bauchi with 3,012,547.

Amupitan said the national voter register has now risen to 110 million, following the completion of three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and subsequent biometric data clean-up.

The expanded register reflects the commission’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with middle-aged voters reportedly constituting the largest demographic group.

At the bottom of the register is Ekiti State with 1,055,708 voters, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691, while the Federal Capital Territory has 1,732,043 registered voters.

Meanwhile, the commission has scheduled the public display of the preliminary voter register from October 9 to 15, 2026, across registration areas nationwide. The exercise will give registered voters an opportunity to scrutinise the preliminary register and raise claims or objections where necessary. Also the distribution of Phase 1 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to local government centres will commence on Friday, October 9, as part of preparations for the upcoming elections.

However, The 110 million voter figure represents the cumulative registration recorded across all three completed phases of the commission’s continuous voter registration exercise.

Notably, the latest figures highlight significant differences in voter distribution across Nigeria’s states as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 elections.
