The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed the disruption of a kidnapping incident in the state alongside the neutralization of the suspects.
The Police announced on May 28 that they dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate in the Ejigbo area of Lagos just hours before they executed their plans.
The incident which took place in the evening of May 25 followed credible intelligence that a gang of heavily armed kidnappers arrived in the area to abduct their target.
Following this, the Police reached the location and were fired on by the suspects, leading to the gun duel. This reportedly led to the neutralization of four suspects while one escaped the scene with severe gunshot injury.
Police Commissioner CP Tijani Fatai revealed that the mastermind behind the foiled Lagos kidnap is named Ifeanyi and popularly known as Ifeco. He explained that the gang leader is based abroad and only comes into the country for attacks like this.
CP Tijani furthered that the kidnappers planned the operation in the Eastern part of the country. Upon completion, they moved to Lagos to kidnap a millionaire businessman based around Festac.
The operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 with two magazines, and 25 rounds of live ammunition. They also recovered one SMG rifle with one magazine loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
Police also recovered one Sienna vehicle and keys to Toyota Corolla and Lexus vehicles linked to the kidnap incident.
Notably, the foiled Lagos Kidnap incident comes amid rising tension of possible spread of insecurity across southwest Nigeria. However, the command has reiterated its commitment to preventing criminal elements from being able to operate in Lagos.
