The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has sparked reactions online after she burst into laughter when a journalist told her that some Nigerians were calling for her resignation.
The exchange happened during an engagement with journalists amid growing public concerns over the circulation of fake and substandard products in the country.
In a video making the rounds on social media, the journalist informed Adeyeye that Nigerians were asking why she had not resigned over the situation.
Rather than respond immediately, the NAFDAC boss laughed, prompting further reactions from viewers who questioned the reason for her response.
Adeyeye Rejects Resignation Calls
Speaking on the issue, Adeyeye rejected calls for her removal and defended her decision to return to Nigeria after decades in the United States to head NAFDAC.
She said she spent 34 years in the US, including about 30 years as a professor, before retiring and returning to Nigeria to serve.
“I came here to serve,” she said, arguing that her motivation was to contribute to Nigeria rather than pursue personal gain.
‘I Came To Remove Some Of Nigeria’s Shame’
Adeyeye also challenged anyone who had accused her of demanding money from contractors to come forward.
“Any contractor that I have demanded money from should come here and tell me,” she said, insisting that she came to NAFDAC for service.

She further said she was “ashamed” of the state of affairs in the country when she returned and wanted to contribute to improving the agency and Nigeria’s image.
‘So, When Are You Going To Resign?’
Adeyeye also pointed to what she described as improvements recorded by NAFDAC under her leadership, including regulatory development and enforcement against counterfeit products.
She said the agency had destroyed counterfeit products worth more than ₦1.5 trillion over the past three years.
At the end of her response to the issue of her continued tenure, Adeyeye appeared to turn the journalist’s question back on him, saying:
“So that question; ‘when are you going to resign’, I hope you got the answer?”
The video has since generated reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning her laughter while others focused on the substance of her response and NAFDAC’s record in combating fake and substandard products.
