The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman identified as Ting Hung Kiong for allegedly attempting to sneak in a large quantity of illegal drugs into Nigeria.
Ting Hung Kiong, who is based in Malaysia, was apprehended on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Following her arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after travelling from Thailand via Dubai, UAE.
According to reports, the Chinese national was selected for screening by NDLEA officials stationed at the airport’s arrival hall, during which the illicit substances were allegedly discovered.
NDLEA operatives disclosed that two large travel boxes containing 31 kilograms of synthetic cannabis were recovered from the suspect.
During interrogation, Ting Hung Kiong admitted to the allegations, stating that she works as a caregiver in Malaysia. She also explained that her trip to Thailand was sponsored by her daughter and that, after spending about two weeks there, the illicit substances were handed over to her for delivery to Nigeria.
The suspect is expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution as authorities continue efforts to combat drug trafficking in the country.
However, the agency further pledged transparency and continuous commitment, noting their efforts in ensuring reduction in illicit substances supply and balancing with War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiatives.
