The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has uncovered several contrabands including mobile phones, laptops, and hard drugs across prisons nationwide.
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) reported that the NCoS executed a massive destruction of these contrabands following their discovery. The report alleged that this comes as part of an increased effort to express the NCoS zero tolerance for illegality.
“By eliminating these security threats, the NCoS is doubling down on inmate reformation and facility safety. Routine searches continue,” the statement read.
Notably, the action follows a rumor that some inmates across Nigerian Correctional centres still possess mobile devices. However, some of these people reportedly use these gadgets to perpetuate illegal activities while being incarcerated.
