A 36-year-old Nigerian man, Babatunde Odutola, has been sentenced to 44 weeks in prison in the United Kingdom (UK) after exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a train heading to Manchester.

Odutola, who has no fixed address, was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 14, after pleading guilty to outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order.

The British Transport Police said the incident occurred around 7pm on Friday, September 11, as Odutola travelled on a train through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly.

Woman Escorted From Train

Accordin to the police, Odutola approached a woman who was travelling alone and looked her up and down in an intimidating manner.

He reportedly became aggressive after she refused to engage with him.

The court heard that Odutola then exposed himself while seated in a wheelchair and began masturbating while looking at the woman and telling her to “come over.”

The woman became distressed and was escorted from the carriage by another passenger.

CCTV footage later showed that Odutola continued the act as other passengers passed through the carriage.

Police were alerted and officers arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly station.

Jailed Within 72 Hours

The case was dealt with within three days of the incident, with Odutola appearing before Manchester Magistrates’ Court in UK on September 14.

He pleaded guilty to one count of outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order, resulting in a total sentence of 44 weeks in prison.

British Transport Police Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said the incident must have been terrifying for the woman, who was singled out while travelling alone.

He said Odutola initially denied the allegations during a police interview but was confronted with CCTV footage and witness accounts before eventually pleading guilty.

Police Reveal Previous Offence

The police officer also disclosed that the incident was not an isolated case, saying Odutola was already a registered sex offender.

Christoforou said the behaviour would not be tolerated on the UK railway network and urged passengers to report sexual offences witnessed or experienced on trains.

British Transport Police said passengers could report such incidents by texting 61016, stressing that prompt reports could help officers respond and take action.
