A Nigerian man has opened up about living with HIV for the past nine years, revealing that he contracted the virus after years of engaging in unprotected sex with multiple partners, including frequent visits to sex workers.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the guest, who appeared healthy and composed throughout the discussion, said he could not identify the exact person from whom he contracted the virus because of his lifestyle at the time. According to him, his repeated visits to brothels and involvement with multiple sexual partners made it impossible to trace the source of the infection. He also revealed that he struggled with what he described as an unusually high libido, claiming it drove him to masturbate in inappropriate places, including a church. He shared his experience to illustrate how his lack of self control contributed to the lifestyle that eventually exposed him to HIV.
The unnamed man used his experience to stress that HIV does not always present visible symptoms, warning against judging a person’s health based on appearance. He encouraged people to prioritize regular HIV testing, practice safer sex, and avoid risky sexual behavior.
The clip has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many commending the guest for speaking openly about his diagnosis and helping to raise awareness. Others shared their own experiences with HIV testing, admitting they had previously avoided getting tested out of fear.
The conversation also prompted users to challenge common misconceptions about HIV transmission. Many pointed out that HIV is not spread through casual contact, such as sharing utensils, hugging, handshakes, or using salon clippers that have been properly disinfected.Â
