The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of Nigeria from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
For Monday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba and Kebbi, with scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected later across parts of the North-East, Kaduna, Taraba and Kebbi.
In the North-Central region, parts of Niger are expected to experience isolated morning thunderstorms and light rain, while moderate rainfall is forecast across much of the region later in the day.
In the South, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Thunderstorms are expected later in the day.
On Tuesday, cloudy and partly cloudy conditions are expected in parts of the North during the morning, with thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba. Moderate rainfall is forecast across much of the region later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to have partly cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau.
In the South, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, while thunderstorms and light rain are forecast over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and the South-South later in the day.
Wednesday Forecast
However, on Wednesday, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the North during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba. Moderate rainfall is expected across much of the region later.
In the North-Central region, parts of the FCT, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa may experience isolated morning thunderstorms and light rain, followed by moderate rainfall across much of the region.
The South is expected to remain generally cloudy in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall forecast across most areas later in the day.
NiMet advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid floodwaters and disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms. It also advised people to stay away from tall trees, billboards and uncompleted structures during severe weather.
The agency further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information for flight planning and risk management.
