NPF, JAMB bust UTME fraud syndicate in Delta state

The Nigeria Police Force has uncovered in collaboration with Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reportedly uncovered a sophisticated exam malpractice scheme.

A malpractice syndicate detected during the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at the College of Education, Warri, Delta State.

According to a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force, the operation was carried out following intelligence-led investigations into attempts by criminal elements. While compromising the integrity of the examination through technology assisted fraud and unauthorized remote access to examination systems. During the investigation, NPF explained a discovery of unauthorized remote access which allowed illegal access into candidatesโ€™ computer systems while the exercise was ongoing.

The authorities further disclosed that coordinated operations led to the arrest of three suspects directly linked to the criminal activity. The NPF stressed further on how the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.

Following the discovery, JAMB has withdrawn the results from the affected examination centres pending the conclusion of investigations. Candidates impacted by the development will be rescheduled to participate in a mop-up examination in line with the boardโ€™s established procedures.

The Nigeria police force also warned candidates, CBT centre operators, and criminal collaborators to desist from all forms of examination malpractice, cyber-assisted fraud, and unauthorized system intrusion. The authorities added that investigations have uncovered involvement of additional examination centres suspected of engaging in similar illegal practices.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the credibility of Nigeriaโ€™s educational system, the Nigeria Police Force stated:

โ€œThe Nigeria Police Force remains committed to identifying, dismantling, and prosecuting criminal networks seeking to undermine the credibility of Nigeriaโ€™s educational system.โ€
