The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, over the alleged stabbing death of his 26-year-old colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole, Ogun State.
The incident occurred on October 18, 2026, after both men finished their daily activities at a cow meat-selling outlet. Police said a misunderstanding over sweeping the floor triggered an argument that allegedly escalated into a fatal attack.
According to the Command, the Ajuwon Police Station received a report of the incident at about 8 p.m., prompting officers to respond and begin an investigation that led to Ayodele’s arrest.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly picked up a knife during the altercation and stabbed Wasiu on the left side of his chest. He reportedly twisted the weapon after plunging it into the victim’s chest, worsening the injury. Subsequently, the victim was rushed to Life Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police deposited Wasiu’s remains at Life Channel Private Mortuary in Lanbe, Ajuwon, pending an autopsy to establish further details surrounding his death.
The police have detained Ayodele as investigators work to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation and prepare the case for prosecution.
However, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to responding promptly to criminal incidents, conducting thorough investigations and ensuring the lawful prosecution of offenders.
Ojajuni also urged residents to exercise restraint when disagreements arise and seek peaceful ways to resolve disputes rather than resorting to violence.
He further encouraged members of the public to report criminal incidents promptly to the police to enable officers to respond and take appropriate action.
The case highlights how a seemingly minor workplace disagreement can escalate into a fatal confrontation, with police investigations expected to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
