Outrage as Nigerian Contractor signs Chinese-language receipt after buying sand from foreign operators

Netizens have expressed a mix of shock and concern over increasing foreign influence in Nigeria after a contractor was forced to sign a Chinese-language receipt after buying sand from foreign operators.

The contractor identified as Arakunrin Iyelola on X recently shared his experience during the purchase of sharp sand from Chinese-owned dredging operations on a local river.

Iyelola disclosed that he is running a construction project and needed sharp sand urgently. Hence, he visited a dredging site owned by Chinese nationals to acquire the sand. He explained that the Chinese bought the land and the river to dredge sand in large quantities.

Following the purchase, he was issued a receipt written entirely in Chinese which he refused. However, he was asked to either sign the receipt or drop the sand and collect a refund.

“I said I cannot sign what I cannot read. They said drop the sand and collect your refund. I needed that sand badly. I signed. They released the sand,” he revealed.”

Meanwhile, the issue has since raised concerns among Nigerians over the increasing foreign acquisition of lands and other resources.

Jay B reacted that;

It’s so wrong you signed what you can’t read nor understand. They definitely must have their own hidden plan to make it in their language while in Nigeria. So wrong.

Festus Olajide also noted that;

Nigeria is slowly being owned by China directly/indirectly…. I won’t be surprised if they add Chinese language to school curriculum in next 5 years and you will be surprised that they own more businesses in Nigeria than Nigerians herself.
