The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized about N350 million worth of fake alcohol in illegal production hubs across Lagos.
The agency revealed that it uncovered and dismantled two illegal production outlets situated at Trade Fair Complex and Lagos Island. The outlets are reportedly involved in counterfeiting and adulteration of alcoholic beverages.
During the raids, NAFDAC recovered 1,800 cartons of counterfeit and adulterated alcoholic products worth around N350 million.
“At the Trade Fair Complex, officers discovered makeshift production setups equipped with plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials used to produce and package fake alcoholic drinks,” the agency disclosed
NAFDAC’s seizure comes amid existing concerns of the growing prominence of fake alcoholic products in the Nigerian market. Experts warn that these products continue to cause harm to unsuspecting victims, leading to several health issues.
