Nigerian street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable has stirred conversation after calling for a generational shift in the music industry.
During a livestream with reality TV star Hazel Oyeze Onou, Whitemoney, Portable urged established artists to create space for emerging talents to grow and succeed.
Reflecting on the evolution of the industry, he highlighted how earlier music figures like D’banj, Don Jazzy, Flavour N’abania, and Kcee helped pave the way for a new generation of stars. While noting that their era created opportunities for stars like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, and Burna Boy to rise.
Portable also singled out Timaya as an example of an artist who made room for others, urging today’s industry leaders to follow that model.
“Before people dey, people dey o, we know set wey be say_ Timaya, Kcee, Flavour, Don Jazzy, D banj dem no commot for road for dem Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Burna boy, how dem go take pass? Make them leave road for us. Timaya leave road for una ooo. He blurted out.
He went further to warn any artist who refuses to allow new talents to thrive would be pushed aside by the next wave of artists.
“If you stand for road wey you no allow people waka, dem go push you commot for road” He explained.
