Nigerian rapper Afolarin Falana popularly known as Falz has encouraged young people to get married in their thirties noting that they would be fully mature by then.
Falz shared his opinion on marriage while speaking on an episode of The BTS Reality podcast. He revealed that he doesn’t encourage early marriage as most people are usually immature in their 20s.
According to him, most young people have not reached the emotional, financial, and mental maturity before 30. He stressed that most young people often bow to societal pressure to get married.
Per his statement;
“Getting married in your 30s is the best. Don’t let anyone pressure you into getting married before 30. By your 30s, you have gained more life experiences.”
Falz argued that young people should instead spend their 20s on self-discovery, personal growth, and enjoying life.
“In your 20s, you are still figuring yourself out. Your 20s are for learning, growing, and enjoying life. In your 30s, you combine all the knowledge and try to direct your life. So, it is better to wait till your 30s before getting married,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions to Falz’s statement with many arguing that age isn’t a strong determinant for marriage.
One X user, Akogun said;
Even in your 30s, you may not fully understand marriage and most times you just need the guidance of your parents or elders before both you will fully understand each other, what important most is financial independence, love patient and forgiven heart, not age.
Another user, Blackjoe opined that;
There is rule to these things , do what works for you, if you feel you are financially and emotionally ready , go ahead and marry.
Just don’t do it because everyone is doing it, do it when you are FULLY ready cos marriage is a big responsibility and when yo marry your friend, I think it will be more fun 🤩
