A newlywed couple has drawn stirs on social media after tearing their marriage certificates on their wedding day.
The video circulating on X shows both partners tearing their copy of their newly-acquired marriage certificate. According to social media users, the move represents an attempt by the couple to prevent divorce in future.
Ejikeme, an X user who shared the video explained that;
“In case of a divorce at least one of the marriage certificates should be presented but since they have torn both apart, it means they will remain married until death separates them and no law can ever separate them without the marriage certificate.”
Amid this, social media users have described the move as an expression of commitment by both partners. However, they expressed concerns that the move also places them at the risk of being stuck together during issues.
Abbey said;

Klausenberg stated that;
Hope the guy understands that even if the children from the union don’t end up being his, it’s part of the bargain? Hope the lady understands that if he decides to marry another woman, it counts? Marry with your head and not your heart but run the union with your heart.
Beyond possible marital issues, others believe that the couple could need the marriage certificate for important filings.
“Besides divorce, the lady may need the certificate for other issues like job, name change, acquiring child birth certificate. Whose idea was it?” Inessa quizzed.
