Telecom giant MTN has begun compensating its customers with free airtime to make up for poor service delivery recorded between November 2025 and January 2026.
Screenshots circulating online and officially confirmed by Spice Radio shows that several customers have begun receiving the compensation.

The airtime rewards follow a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) requiring telecom providers to compensate customers for poor service experienced during the identified period, TechCabal reported.
According to the NCC, the telecom operators failed to meet required performance benchmarks in several parts of the country. Hence, they were ordered to begin customer compensation from April 24, 2026.
While this is not the NCC’s first compensation order for service failure, the recent direct highlights a stronger approach to accountability.
In the same vein, the NCC also ordered tower companies responsible for most of the network outages to redirect their compensation obligations into tower infrastructure upgrades. This is expected to boost their overall service deliveries.
However, the investments will be monitored by independent auditors to ensure compliance.
