Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has issued an Executive Order (EO) to improve security measures by enforcing vehicle registration regulations and improving traffic management across the state.
EO 002 of 2026 signed on Friday June 5, 2026 seeks to ensure strict compliance with existing vehicle registration and traffic regulations.
The development trails rising security concerns in parts of Oyo State following the continued detention of students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area about 21 days ago.
As such, the new Order focuses on enforcing vehicle registration requirements, with one major option standing out.
According to the Governor, commercial motorcycle operators are now banned from operating between 10:30 pm and 5:30 am across the state. The Governor described the measure as part of additional efforts to improve security and public safety.
Makinde stressed that the restriction became important amid broader efforts to reduce criminal activities and strengthen surveillance across communities. Consequently, he urged Oyo State residents to actively support security agencies with provision of timely information on suspicious activities and movements.
Governor Seyi Makinde further d that designated enforcement agencies have been empowered to arrest offenders and impound vehicles. Offenders apprehended under the executive order would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Seized assets and properties on the other hand will be handled through established legal procedures.
Meanwhile, the Governor assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the freedom of the abducted students and teachers.
As a government, we share in their anxiety and their hope, and we remain committed to doing everything within our power to secure the safe return of every one of them,” Makinde said.
