Togo cancels visa requirements for African visitors

The Republic of Togo has announced a historic step in becoming a visa-free destination for all Africans by eliminating visa requirements for Africans visitors.

The country disclosed on May 19 that โ€œall nationals of African states holding a valid national passport may enter Togolese territory without a visa, for a stay of up to 30 days.โ€

This is expected to position Togo as a space of openness, mobility, and cooperation at the heart of the African continent.

Meanwhile, travelers must complete their travel declaration on the country’s official travel platform at least 24 hours before their arrival. This will allow them to obtain the required travel slip.

Togo’s move comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance open travel and accessibility across Africa. This positions Togo as the sixth African country to allow visa-free entry following the likes of Rwanda, Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Seychelles.

Last week, Nigeria announced a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan nationals following President Tinubu’s visit to the country. The move came in reciprocation of a similar gesture from the Rwandan Government to Nigerian citizens.
