31-Year-Old NYSC Member Arraigned Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of 6-Year-Old Girl in Delta

A 31 year old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving as a teacher at a private school off Jakpa Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has been arrested and arraigned over the alleged sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl.

The suspect allegedly took the girl to his apartment within the school premises on three occasions when her mother arrived late to pick her up from school.

According to the child’s account, the NYSC member allegedly sexually abused her during the incidents and warned her not to tell anyone. She further alleged that he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incidents to her mother.

The girl reportedly told those handling the case that the suspect also used a white handkerchief to intimidate her and discourage her from speaking about the alleged abuse.

Following the allegations, the child reportedly underwent a medical examination. The examination allegedly revealed injuries, including a ruptured hymen and an injury to her vulva.

A Delta based activist who took up the case disclosed that the suspect was arraigned before High Court 1 in Effurun and subsequently remanded at the Warri Correctional Centre in Okere.

The court adjourned the case until September 18, 2026, to allow for legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The development has renewed concerns over the protection of children in schools and the need for institutions to maintain effective safeguarding measures, particularly where young pupils remain in school after regular closing hours.
