The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disrupted a drug trafficking syndicate using palm kernel extract containers to move drugs.
The agency revealed that the operation began on Mar. 11 after its operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja Lagos intercepted 3.10 kilograms of cocaine at the airport’s export shed. The illicit substance was hidden inside tins of palm kernel extract, headed for the United Kingdom.
Consequently, the NDLEA arrested two suspects handling the shipment, Idris Olayiwola Amoo and Akinlami Akinsoji Adedoyin. Further investigations led to the arrest of the sender of the consignment Ezemuwo Joel.
The operations also led to the arrest of the syndicate’s head, identified as King Arinze. A bust on Arinze’s warehouse led to discovery of 886 tins of palm kernel extract and 52 grams of cannabis sativa.
