Ogun Government Rules Mirabel’s Rape Allegation as false, abandons Prosecution for Rehabilitation

The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has clarified developments in two widely discussed gender-based violence cases, providing an update on the case involving Miss Nsikak Abigael Emem, popularly known as Mirabel, while announcing the arrest of an alleged gang-rape ringleader.

In a statement issued by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, the Ministry stated that investigations conducted by relevant authorities, including claims made by Mirabel, established that her rape allegation was false and deliberately fabricated.

According to the Ministry, the findings revealed that there was no offender to be arrested or prosecuted in connection with the claim and that the incident did not pose any threat to public safety.

Following the outcome of the investigation, the government opted against prosecution, rather chose psycho-social rehabilitation. The development is described as the best way through which interests of justice could be better served.

However, the Ogun State Government added that Mirabel has since been placed under the care of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, where she is receiving support and rehabilitation.

The Ministry further added that reports on her progress have been encouraging, noting that she has responded positively to the programme and is currently preparing for examinations to continue her education.

Ogun Government nabs alleged gang rape ringleader

Meanwhile in a similar development, the Ogun State Government also revealed that significant progress in the investigation of the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in the Ibogun area of Ogun State.

Authorities reported that four men allegedly took turns sexually assaulting the teenager. One suspect, Segun Samuel, was arrested shortly after the incident, while the remaining suspects fled.

The Ministry disclosed that sustained collaboration between the Ministry of Justice and the Ogun State Police Command led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader, Qudus Abiola Yekini.

Although two suspects remain at large, the government described the arrest as a major breakthrough and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those involved are apprehended and prosecuted.

The Ministry commended the Ogun State Police Command and several senior officers for their roles in securing the arrest, including Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni.

This development has reiterated the Ogun State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence. Therefore urging residents to refrain from criminal acts, including violent assaults and the making of false allegations, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
