NDLEA Apprehends 67-Year-Old Nigerian-British Grandma With 13kg Cocaine Concealed in Fake Plantain

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reportedly arrested a 67-year-old Nigerian-British woman, Mary Yetunde Barek for drug trafficking.

According to reports, The UK-BOUND grandma was nabbed while attempting to smuggle 13 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside fake plantain peels at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The suspect, a UK-based caregiver, was intercepted on Sunday, June 28, while preparing to board a Virgin Atlantic flight bound for London.

The NDLEA operatives disclosed that a thorough search of her bags led to the discovery of 31 wraps of cocaine weighing a total of 13kg, carefully disguised to look like fresh plantain peels with an aim of evading airport security checks.

During interrogation, Barek reportedly admitted ownership of the illicit consignment adding that she works as a caregiver in the United Kingdom.

However, The NDLEA further stressed that investigations are ongoing as the agency continues to makes efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating through the country’s airports.
