Media entrepreneur and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s security and economic situation.
Speaking during an interview, Momodu lamented the worsening cost of living and persistent security challenges across the country. He described the current economic situation and insecurity in the country as unprecedented, arguing that many Nigerians are struggling to survive amid the rising cost of living.
According to Momodu, the level of hardship has become so severe that he now hesitates to check messages on his phone because of the growing number of people seeking financial assistance.
“These days, even for me to open some messages on my phone, I’m scared, because everyone is begging. The suffering of the people,” he said.
Momodu maintained that insecurity and economic hardship have never been this severe in Nigeria’s history.
“Insecurity has never been this bad, I’m 66 approaching 67. So I’m old enough to know and understand the challenges we’ve encountered in Nigeria before now. Nothing can equal this.” He explained.
He further added that the government is not acknowledging the plight of citizens nor remorseful about the nation’s worsening economic and security challenges.
Momodu added:
“And I’m not seeing any form of remorse or atonement. Everything is we’re doing something about it, we will do something about it.”
Dele Momodu also criticised President Bola Tinubu over what he described as ineffective communication with Nigerians, arguing that consistent engagement with citizens is a key responsibility of leadership.
He therefore added that, if he were president, he would make it a priority to address Nigerians regularly and keep them informed about government activities. Momodu drew a comparison with Donald Trump, saying the U.S. leader frequently speaks to Americans despite his age.
“If I was the president of Nigeria, number one, information is power. You must inform the citizenry every day. If you look at even Donald Trump at his age, sometimes you see him standing there at press conferences, he’s almost falling asleep, but he’s speaking to Americans,” He stressed.
