New Ogun Gateway Airport Road Floods After Heavy Rains

The road leading to the newly commissioned Ogun State Gateway Airport has witnessed a major flood incident barely two weeks since its launch.

Videos circulating on social media shows that the 5.3 kilometer dual carriageway, linking Gateway International Airport in Iperu to the Sagamu-Benin Expressway was flooded following a heavy downpour.

Per the videos, some sections of the road appeared submerged with floodwaters. This prompted residents and concerned persons to question incomplete gutters and drainage failures.

One X user, @dansatty opined that the flooded road represents the substandard works Nigerian politicians do. Dansatty explained that the road had gutters at the beginning, but was discontinued at some point.

According to him;

There is a gutter being constructed alongside the road (on both side) from Iperu, but they stopped after Keshington Adebutu Civic Center. So after the Civic center till you get to Ilishan, there is no gutter, and that’s about 70% of the road stretch. The constructed gutter is not up to 30% of the road stretch. That road will not last.

Meanwhile, @Letter_to_Jack, an Ogun State Government Ambassador attributed the incident to a flash flood. Jack noted that the flash flood was due to a clogged drainage that authorities are now working on.
