Transcorp Hilton, a 5-Star Hotel situated in Abuja is reportedly sharing buckets of water to guests amid the capital’s water scarcity.
Multiple social media reports revealed that Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja is currently experiencing a water scarcity. Per the reports, the scarcity is now affecting both luxury establishments and ordinary residents.
Reports alleges that the iconic 5-star Transcorp Hilton Abuja is distributing buckets of water to guests, accompanied by apology notes, as public water supply has failed across multiple districts.
Notably, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike attributed the crisis to a major pipeline damaged by a private developer during rehabilitation and construction works. However, he noted that the Water Board is working tirelessly to restore supply while vowing sanctions on those responsible.
“It is not our fault; it is the fault of a private developer, but we have no excuse not to restore it,” Wike said.
The disruption has affected areas including Gwarinpa, Wuse, Garki, Apo, and surrounding communities. It has also resulted in power issues at facilities like the Lower Usuma Dam worsening the situation.
Following this, Abuja residents have taken to social media to express their frustrations, describing the water scarcity as unacceptable.
According to Uloma;
The water situation in Abuja is dire. People are buying costly tanks with no guarantee of water supply. Some are lodging in hotels, skipping cooking + laundry, or bathing with bottled/pure water. Others are staying with friends. It’s a mess and Wike appears to be doing nothing.
Gru added that;
How do I explain to people that Hilton is sharing buckets of water to guests, with apology letters, because there’s no running water in Wike’s FCT?
Sheni Coker also opined that;
A 5-star hotel in Abuja sharing buckets of water to guests is not something I ever thought I’d hear in my lifetime. There really is no rock bottom in Nigeria.
FCT Authorities say repairs are underway, but as of April 23, 2026, the crisis persists with no clear timeline for full restoration.
