The Mexican government has approved the appointment of Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, with additional diplomatic responsibilities in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Omokri announced the development in a post on X on Tuesday, October 21, 2026, after José Manuel Briseño Flores, Chargé d’Affaires of the Mexican Embassy in Abuja, delivered the formal approval to Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the statement, Omokri said the agrément, which signifies the host country’s acceptance of a proposed ambassador, was presented to the ministry’s Director of Protocol, Ambassador Babagana Wakil.
“To God Be The Glory,” Omokri wrote, announcing his acceptance by the Mexican government to serve as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Mexican States.

He will also represent Nigeria in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua under a diplomatic arrangement known as concurrent accreditation, which allows an ambassador to serve in more than one country.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier announced the appointment of non-career and career ambassadors as part of efforts to fill Nigeria’s diplomatic positions.
According to previous reports, the president approved the posting of 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors in March, following the recall of Nigeria’s former ambassadors in September 2023.
Several of the appointees have since assumed their respective diplomatic responsibilities.
