A prosecution witness, Chinedu Eneanya has testified to how the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele allegedly withdrew $6.23million using a forged signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The EFCC, citing Eneanya’s testimony reported that the funds were withdrawn under the guise of funding foreign election observers.

He disclosed that forensic analysis conducted on the documents confirmed that the signatures attributed to the two officials were not genuine.
Following the investigation, about five CBN officials allegedly linked to the fund’s withdrawal have been suspended.
Notably, the testimony comes as part of an amended 20-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, conspiracy to obtain by false pretence leveled against the former CBN Governor Emefiele.
The court has adjourned proceedings to Tuesday, April 28, 2026, for continuation of the trial, according to an official statement from the EFCC.
