The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South-West has announced that Atiba University, Oyo, will refund tuition fees and facilitate the transfer of affected Law students following concerns over a 10 year ban affecting the institution’s Law programme.
The development followed a fact finding and intervention visit to the university last Wednesday by a delegation of NANS South-West and the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Oyo State, over challenges confronting the institution’s Law students.
The parties reconvened on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 to hold further deliberations with the university management and reach several resolutions to address the concerns of the affected students.
According to a statement shared by the NANS President on X, students who wish to withdraw from the university and request a refund of their tuition fees will receive their payments within two weeks.
Students who intend to pursue their legal education and proceed to the Nigerian Law School will complete their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. NANS said the university had liaised with another institution to create a pathway for the students to subsequently proceed to the Law School after their NYSC.
The university also agreed to facilitate transfer opportunities for affected students. Two universities have indicated their readiness to accommodate students in 100 and 200 levels, while another institution has expressed willingness to admit students across all levels, subject to accommodation availability.
The transfer process will commence soon, with affected students expected to resume at their respective institutions within two months.
On academic records, students requiring transcripts have been advised to submit their requests immediately. The university assured them that it would process and send the transcripts without delay, following confirmation that the relevant academic records remain intact.
Students experiencing difficulties with their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) admission letters are to submit their details so the authorities can begin resolving the issues immediately.
Meanwhile, students who wish to remain at Atiba University but change their course of study will receive to do so.
NANS and NAUS reiterated their commitment to monitoring the implementation of the resolutions and ensure that the university fulfills its commitment within the agreed timelines.
The associations also stressed that the welfare and academic future of the affected students remain their priority, adding that they will continue engaging relevant stakeholders until the university fully implements all the resolutions.
