Unknown Gunmen have reportedly abducted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu.
Oyo Affairs, citing a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide Femi Awogboro reported that the incident occurred at about 7:30am on June 3 in the Challenge area of Ibadan.
The abductors reportedly kidnapped Mrs Adegoke John-Paul alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
While the Oyo State Police is yet to publicly react to the incident, eyewitness videos at the scene alleged that the abduction may be a targeted action. Reports suggest that the victims were intercepted during the school run, exacerbating existing security tensions in the state.
Mrs. John-Paul is described as a former staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian, where she served before retiring last year. She reportedly relocated to Ibadan with her children with plans to join her husband in the United States.
Meanwhile, the family noted that they have reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. Hence, they called for calm, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder ongoing investigation.
The incident represents the latest kidnapping amid the rising insecurities in Oyo State and Nigeria generally. In recent days, protesters have taken to the streets to seek immediate release of the students and teachers kidnapped in Oyo.
