Popular Afrobeats singer, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, known as Adekunle Gold, bagged criticisms online after his old tweets about former President Goodluck Jonathan resurfaced, amid a
recent cyberbullying case involving an X user.
The development follows reports that the singer filed a lawsuit against an X user, Adeboye Samuel Adeyeye, popularly known by his handle @Swanky001. Over allegations of cyberbullying, threats, and online harassment directed at him and his family.
According to reports, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison without the option of a fine.

The judgment has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many users criticizing Adekunle Gold while resurfacing his past posts critical of the Jonathan administration. Some users accused the singer of inconsistency, referencing his earlier tweets that condemned fuel price increases from N65 to N141 per litre during Jonathanโs tenure. While contrasting it with current fuel prices reportedly ranging between N1,200 and N1,400 under the present administration.
A user wrote:
โ1- You called out GEJ this much when fuel was N100 but no single tweet about Tinubu that took fuel to 1400
2- you just jailed someone for something you used to do freely.โ
Others also questioned the silence of celebrities on current economic challenges, comparing their loud criticisms during the Jonathan administration with what they described as relative quietness under the present government.
Another user tweeted:
โAll the Celebrities that were very vocal during Goodluck Jonathanโs regime have suddenly lost their voice in this Tinubuโs regime that is 5 times worse than that of GEJ. My question is why???โ
Another user added:
โThey can’t speak out cause they enjoy from the same government sugar don dey their body so them no fit do anything.โ
