Davido Condemns attack on Osun Accord Chairman amid police investigation

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Adeleke Adedeji David popularly known as Davido has condemned gunmen attack on the Osun Accord Party Chairman Asimiyu Ajibola popularly known as Baba Isila who was reportedly shot late night on Wednesday by some suspected gunmen.

Reacting to the incident, Davido expressed his disappointment while challenging the opposition political party, APC, not to contribute to insecurity in the country. Rather the party should embrace peace and allow for free elections.

He wrote:

“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation. The attack on the Chairman of Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all. If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons.”

According to the Daily post, the unfortunate incident took place around 9:50 pm via Osogbo Community Bank axis, near MDs area in Osogbo.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymous reported that the attackers reportedly trailed Ajibola and his associates, opening fire on the blue Toyota Corolla conveying them while traveling through the area.

The eyewitness further explained that the victims managed to flee the scene with injuries, and sought safety at Dugbe Divisional police Headquarters in Osogbo before the gunmen escaped from the scene.

Party members condemned the attack, describing it as a deliberate attempt to silence opposition voices and intimidate political actors. They called on security agencies to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
Also, the incident has heightened concerns over political violence in the state ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Notably, the attack comes amid growing political tension in Osun, where allegations of violence, intimidation, and attacks on party supporters and campaign structures have recently dominated the political landscape. Reports of attacks on Accord Party facilities and members have further fueled concerns over security in the state.

The state government, through a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, confirmed that Ajibola was receiving treatment at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. He further enjoined the security agencies to fish out and prosecute the culprits judiciously.

However, the Osun state police command has confirmed the attack of Osun state Accord party chairman and reportedly launched an investigation into the shooting.

Although the security agencies are yet to officially identify those responsible for the attack, the investigations continue.
