The Anambra State Government has arraigned eight men described as fake pastors for posing as real ones in violation of the state’s Homeland Security Law.
The arraignment conducted at the State High Court on June 5, 2026 was announced by the government’s new media.
Per the announcement, the suspects include Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, and Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu. Other arraigned suspects include Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.
The arraignment aligns with the Soludo administration’s broad crackdown on fake pastors, fake native doctors, and spiritualists who operate under the guise of religion to exploit the public and empower criminal networks across the state.
Notably, the 2025 Homeland Security Law targets fake miracles, charms for crime, and prophecies that aid exploitation. Penalties for violation include up to six years in prison or N20 million fines.
Meanwhile, the move has drawn mixed reactions with proponents praising the resolve while critics question the impacts on religious freedoms.
