The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has attributed the recent Oyo Kidnap incident to JAS terrorists affiliated to the infamous Boko Haram insurgent group.
According to the Defence HQ, the Oyo Kidnap incident was perpetrated by terrorists of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), widely known as Boko Haram.
The Ministry explained that these terrorists have been dislodged from other parts of the country due to high-intensity operations being conducted all over.
Consequently, they clarified that it is inaccurate to address the perpetrators as criminals, but as vicious and violent terrorists.
The Defense HQ furthered that;
Troops remain actively deployed across the affected areas in coordination with other security agencies and local stakeholders. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains resolute in dismantling all criminal and terrorist networks threatening the peace, stability and unity of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry’s statement comes after its initial disclosure that there are no terrorist bases in the southwest. Reacting to that, they stated that the disclosure only aimed to provide intelligence-based context. This was hoped to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic among residents.
