The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has emerged at the centre of a massive backlash following its recent donations to FRCN and FAAN.
NTA reported that the NEDC recently donated state-of-the-art digital equipment to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria to enhance broadcasting operations and improve service delivery.
The regional development commission also donated luggage trolleys to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). This donation is expected to ease passenger movement and also improve convenience at airports across the North East.
Interestingly, the NEDC’s donation comes amid nationwide efforts by regional development commissions to improve their regions. Recently, the South West Development Commission (SWDC) revealed plans to connect the region via the rail system.
The commission disclosed that it had received permissions to use existing rail infrastructure in the region. The move is expected to include the provision of new trains that would aid the movement of people and goods across the south west.
Similarly, efforts are ongoing in the South East to improve connectivity among states in the region.
Consequently, the NEDC’s donation has drawn notable backlash for the NEDC with critics describing it as a misplaced priority.
One X user, Hamlad said;
Is this what this commission was established for? Why are these so wicked? You have deep poverty problems in your region which is causing problems for other parts of the country you are not working in that regards to tackle those problems. You are not providing support to.
AbuNoor added that;
A very big misplace of priority, this same commission have under it’s care: poor and vulnerable, IDPs, Dilapidated schools and hospitals within the region but they chooses to do this unfortunate and self centered project donations.
Saidu also noted that;
This is embarrassing and disgraceful. While your contemporary in the South West is busy developing their region, you are here wasting money and time on dross and trivia.
