The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed an agreement with the Government of Ethiopia to transfer more than 100 Nigerian prisoners back to the country.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Bianca Ojukwu revealed that the deal involves bringing Nigerian Prisoners in Ethiopia’s Kaliti Prisons and AbaSamuel Prisons back to the country.
According to her, the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreement is a bilateral agreement between the two nations.
The Minister disclosed that four Nigerian Prisoners have died within the time frame of the negotiations, judicial vetting and ratification.
“We cannot afford to lose any more precious lives. We are determined to bring home the living. The Agreement we sign today is rooted in the principles of humanity and justice and cooperation between our two nations,” she added.
