Nigerian first lady, Oluremi Tinubu has linked the high cost of air travel trend, citing that flight tickets are expensive not only in Nigeria but also in countries such as the United States.
Speaking on the administration’s infrastructure agenda in Ekiti on Monday June 8, 2026, she explained that the government is investing heavily in alternative transportation networks. While referencing to the coastal roads and rail projects, to improve connectivity and ease movement across the country.
She said:
“Everywhere in the world, even in America. Flights are expensive and that’s why Mr president is doing the coastal roads even trying to have rail land.”
According to her, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is continuing the development of the coastal highway and expanding rail infrastructure, building on projects initiated by previous administrations. Noting that the investments are aimed at supporting economic growth and also providing more transportation options for Nigerians.
The first lady comments come amid rising domestic airfares, with some Nigerian airlines recently increasing base ticket prices significantly, adding to concerns over transportation costs nationwide.
