Fraudulent NIN Enrolment Attracts Seven-Year Jail Sentence, Says ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has warned that individuals involved in fraudulent National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment risk a prison sentence of up to seven years upon conviction.

According to punch, the caution was delivered during a security sensitisation programme for NIN Enrolment partners. The meeting which was held on Thursday at Abuja by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in partnership with the Office of the National Security adviser and other Security agencies.

Addressing participants at the event, ICPC Assistant Director Mark Faison stressed the importance of strict compliance with enrolment procedures. While warning that any deviation from approved terms of engagement constitutes corruption.

He cautioned that engaging in fraudulent NIN registration practices attracts serious legal sanctions, including a seven year jail term for offenders. Faison further urged agents to comply with established protocols to safeguards the integrity of the country’s identity management framework.

While, ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant government agencies to curb identity fraud. By ensuring the credibility of Nigeria’s national identity management system.

The commission further reiterated that anyone found aiding, abetting, or participating in fraudulent NIN registration schemes would face prosecution and, if convicted, could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
