Nigerian Army foils terrorists plan to kidnap students in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have reportedly averted an attempted mass abduction of pupils at Iluke Community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to the Nigerian Army press release, the attackers, apparently disguised in military uniforms, had assembled pupils of Iluke Primary School with the intention of abducting them. After which the troops arrived and engaged the gunmen in a gun battle. The swift intervention forced the terrorists to abandon the operation and flee.

The Nigerian Army noted that one of the terrorists was neutralised during the exchange, with others escaping with suspected gunshot wounds. However, the attackers reportedly killed a teacher and a community resident before the troops reached the scene.

Military authorities further disclosed that the disruption prevented what could have been a major tragedy. And it also underscored the commitment of troops to protecting vulnerable communities and schoolchildren.

While investigations still continue, The security agencies in neighbouring states have been alerted to help track down the fleeing suspects. And additional security measures have also been deployed to prevent further attacks in the area.

The Nigerian Army urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against terrorism and other criminal activities.
