Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of modern residential quarters for judges as part of efforts to improve the welfare of the state’s judiciary.
The project will comprise 40 standard duplexes equipped with recreational facilities to provide a conducive living and working environment for judicial officers.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Uzodimma on Monday.
The council also approved ₦1.9 billion for the establishment of four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the Orlu zone to improve access for candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to Emelumba, ₦900 million will be released immediately to commence work at the pilot centres located at Bishop Shanahan Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.

The Executive Council further approved the establishment of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited, a public-private partnership initiative aimed at regulating outdoor advertising and deploying smart digital billboards across the state.
Commissioner for Digital Economy, Chimezie Amadi, explained that the project would be funded entirely by private investors at no cost to the state government and would deploy Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled infrastructure to create a modern, digitally managed signage system.
During the meeting, Governor Uzodimma also swore in Longers Anyanwu as the new Commissioner for Agriculture.
The council additionally directed immediate intervention to tackle the growing erosion menace affecting parts of Imo state.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Anyanwu thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s development agenda for Imo State.
