Prominent Nigerian On-Air Personality and content creator Chinedu Ani Emmanuel popularly known as Nedu Wazobia has revealed the reasons why he left The Honest Bunch podcast.
Nedu, who left the Honest Bunch over a year ago attributed his exit to a fallout with the show’s handler during an episode of The Clarity Zone Podcast.
The OAP disclosed that the podcast was his idea from the beginning, but he left over an ownership dispute.
“Many Nigerians thought I left because of what happened that last year but that wasn’t why I left. I started ‘Honest Bunch’, it wasn’t called the Honest Bunch. When I started the podcast, I was on radio. I needed an outlet where I could talk and say my mind.”
Nedu highlighted that he approached a former colleague and pitched the idea. He stated that they agreed he would bring the content and people while the colleague handled the production.
“This is my idea and this is what I want. He said, ‘Okay, how do we do it. I said ‘How it is going to work is you have a production house, the cameras, the team, my own is just to sit down and talk.” he revealed.
The content creator furthered that they had a gentleman’s agreement to split profit equally, without any contract. Meanwhile, he only received payment from sponsored programs, leaving the management to own 100% of YouTube earnings.
However, he stated that this was the beginning of his mistakes. According to him, the production partners tried to suspend him from a show he created during a viral controversy.
He revealed that;
“They said something “Nedu, we are going to put out a statement that we are suspending you from the show.” In my head, I was like, so what now? Show wey I get? You dey craze? You dey give landlord quick notice?” he recounted.
Nedu also revealed that the show wasn’t originally named the Honest Bunch. He stressed that the rebrand followed a controversy from another creator over possible infringement.
Meanwhile, following the name change, the partners allegedly registered the new name, making themselves sole owners of the show. He remarked that he didn’t know about the registration until he discovered it through a CAC name search.
“The next day, they searched CAC and found out that when the Honest Bunch was being registered, they registered it as 100% their product. I didn’t want to leave. I was going to wait for it to die down, but when I saw that it was 100% their product, I’m like no. Na him be say I no fit.”
