The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has debunked claims that it suspended students’ upkeep allowances under the student loan scheme.
The scheme disclosed that claims suggesting that it suspended upkeep allowances are false and misleading.
NELFUND explained that the reports included a fabricated statement and an AI-generated newspaper front page of The Nigerian Tribune.

They argue that the false reports are designed to create panic, confusion, and distrust among the scheme’s beneficiaries.
The scheme clarified that there’s no directive from the Federal Government to suspend upkeep allowance. It added that publications are false and that the newspaper covers are AI-generated.
“NELFUND remains committed to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate,” the statement added.
Consequently, they urged beneficiaries and stakeholders to disregard the fake publications and rely on verified information from official channels.
